The
Splendour of Japanese Prints
This exhibition features
the finest examples of Japanese woodblock prints by
some of the best-known masters of this technique, including
Utamaro, Toyokuni, Hokusai, Hiroshige, Shinsui and
Hasui, whose works are being brought together in an
outstanding collection.
The prints, dating from the early 18th to the mid 20th century, present
a wonderful insight into the evolution of woodblock print composition
and techniques during the past two hundred years. The images featured
in the exhibition capture the beauties, actors and scenes from days gone
by.
This exhibition gives the viewer an opportunity to bear witness to the
extraordinary talents of the artists whose unique skills have created
images with a vitality and impact that all of us can enjoy just as vividly
today.
